Tax number field locked

Problem Description:
Tax number field locked
Scenario:
Unable to edit the Tax number field in customer Master, even though validation rule in not set for the particular field.
Solution:
1) Go to Retail Profile >> Display profile >> Remove [Remove the profile causing issue]
Symptoms:
Not Applicable
Resolution/Work Around:
Removed the display profile for customer master located under Retail profile, so that the tax number could be edited or added.
