iVend POS Autoselection of Serial or Batch based item

iVend POS Autoselection of Serial or Batch based item

Introduction

This article provides information on the automatic Serial and Batch selection of items in a sale at the POS. With the help of this functionality a user can reduce the cashier's effort to search and select the Serial numbers or Batches that relate to an item when it is managed in this way.
This functionality can be configured with several rules and methods under the Enterprise Settings in the Management Console:
Log into the iVend Management Console and navigate to: Administration > System Initialization > Enterprise – the Enterprise Settings window appears.

Automatic Selection

As an example, we will create a single Serial numbered item in the system and will see how easily we can have it selected in a transaction at the POS without the need to move to the Serial number selection window – the system will make the selection for us based on the rules that we apply in the Enterprise Settings:
In the Management Console, go to Administration > System Initialization > Enterprise.

Scroll down and select this option Only if One Available in the Automatically Select Serial/Batch field as shown in the screen above and press on [Ok] to save the settings. This indicates that system automatically select the Serial Number when the Serial controlled product only has a single quantity available left in stock in the store warehouse.
The available options for the “Automatically Select Serial/Batch” are explained below:
· Manual – With this method, the system will not pick the Batch or Serial details automatically and therefore, the user will need select it manually while selling the Serial or Batch controlled items at the POS.
· Expiry Date – The system will automatically select the Batch or Serial numbered items that will expire first.
· Lowest Price First – The system will pick the Serial or Batch controlled items based on the lowest price.
· Highest Price First – The system will pick the Serial or Batch controlled items based on the highest price.
· Creation Date – The system will pick the Serial or Batch controlled items based on their record creation date.
· Only if one available-The system will pick the Serial or Batch controlled items only when a single Serial or Batch item is left available in stock.
If the system has only one item left available in stock for a Serial or Batch controlled record, then it will automatically make the selection without prompting the user for a manual intervention.

Now, if we take a look at one of our Serial controlled products that we know has only one (1) quantity left available in stock we can see the setting for Auto selection and if we view the Inventory, we can also confirm that there is only one (1) item left available that we can sell at the POS – refer to the following screen images to gain further clarity:

Serial Tracked Item – Automatically Select when Only One Available

Let us now see what happens in the transaction at the POS when we select this item.
Once the user scans the Serialized item in at the POS, the system automatically selects the Serial number and adds the product to the transaction screen.
This process assisted the POS user to bypass the Serial number selection at the POS screen because there was only one item left remaining in stock for the Serial controlled item.
The feature is also available for Batch controlled items. It will work in the same way, as we have demonstrated here for the Serial controlled item.
