Environment:
iVend 6.6 with SAPB1
Scenario:
Customer had a payment card transaction where the cashier had selected "Credit Card" as the payment type but then the customer selected "Yes" on the pad when asked if the card they inserted was a debit card (it was in fact a debit card). The transaction went through and the payment was authorized however the customer had to both enter their PIN (as it was a debit card) AND also had to sign (presumably because the clerk had initiated it as a credit card transaction). Looking at reports, the transaction was recorded as a "CREDITCARD" tender type. Is that expected behavior under that scenario? Is there a way to have the customer's response to the "Debit Yes/No?" prompt on the pad as "Yes" change the tender type of the transaction to debit or should the clerk's process after realizing that the customer is using a debit card be to go back and select "Debit Card" for the payment type instead of "Credit Card"? We're trying to figure out what would be considered "best practice" or if there is one.is in store

Resolution/Work Around:
This is expected behavior.
Signature capture can be controlled using the below settings on the Datacap Payment Configuration screen on Management Console.
- Enable Signature Capture for CreditCard
- Enable Signature Capture for DebitCard
Since the tender type is selected in iVend, it will be stored as a Credit card payment, reports also reflect the same.
At present, we assume, Signature is enabled for Credit Card, so it will prompt for signature as the Credit card is selected on POS. If on PIN Pad Debit Card selected, iVend POS will not have access to that info.
So, in this case, if the signature is disabled for Debit card, it is better to select Debit card tender type on POS, for processing Debit cards. So that signature can be avoided.(Based on the Datacap configuration on Management Console)
